The Swedish pop group ABBA encountered international success when it won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974, giving Sweden its first victory. Afterwards, they accumulated hit after hit, topping the charts worldwide from 1974 to 1983. The group’s name is an acronym of the first letters of the first names of its members: Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad.
